| | "Green" Issues - Locally, Nationally & Globally
As you have probably noticed throughout this website, I have long held a
passion for environmental issues. I have been a member of the Sierra Club for
almost 30 years; and in addition to my volunteer work with Marine Mammal
Conservancy since 2004, I was a volunteer for the U.S. Forestry Service in the
early 1990's. About six years ago while working on my business plan, I made a
decision to make my environmental interests a part of my real estate career. At
the time I had no idea how I was going to accomplish this, but as a busy real
estate agent I wanted to incorporate environmental activities into all parts of
my life - not just on my occasional day off. I wish I could claim that I saw the
coming "green" trend in residential real estate, but in truth I just
wanted to have even more fun in my career! But even if I didn't predict
it, I am very excited by all of the latest information and innovation available
to homeowners interesting in greening their environment.

Residential Remodeling Guidelines: "The REGREEN program was created
through a partnership between the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)
Foundation and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The REGREEN
guidelines are a powerful resource to guide your next remodeling project.
Beginning with the successful approach to green remodeling and walking you
through 10 different types of residential retrofit projects, these
guidelines provide the information you need to make positive and impactful
retrofit decisions. The guidelines address the major elements of any green
renovation project, including the site of the home, water efficiency, energy
and atmosphere, material and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
The guidelines blend product selection, building systems integration and
proven technologies into a seamless compilation of green strategies and case
studies for the homeowner, builder and design professional. The REGREEN
guidelines can be applied to a variety of home projects, from remodeling a
kitchen to adding a major addition, from redoing a back yard to executing a
gut rehab. Homeowners can either use the guidelines for their own
do-it-yourself projects or visit with a professional who can apply REGREEN
as a design guideline."
